New Zealand and China share a strong and growing relationship in education, supported by ongoing diplomatic collaboration. In June 2025, both countries emphasised the importance of people-to-people exchanges, noting that education partnerships help deepen understanding and foster global citizenship.

Education New Zealand (ENZ) highlighted that the official visit “advances New Zealand's and China's education relationship,” recognising progress in institutional partnerships and celebrating New Zealand’s role as Country of Honour at the 26th China Annual Conference and Expo for International Education.

Strengthening China–New Zealand Education Cooperation

Experience New Zealand like never before with a transformative journey that blends culture, science, and education. This programme offers students a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in Kiwi life, exploring vibrant cityscapes, visiting world-class schools, and discovering the geological wonders that make New Zealand one of the most unique environments on Earth. Students also take on the role of ambassadors for their own culture, sharing their experiences and building meaningful connections with New Zealand peers.

Beyond the classroom, students will explore volcanic landscapes, geothermal valleys, and crystal-clear waterways, engaging in hands-on science lessons that bring natural phenomena to life. From hiking Rangitoto Island’s lava fields to observing glow worms in the Waitomo Caves, every experience inspires curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of the world around them.

This is more than a study tour—it’s a holistic journey that combines learning, adventure, and personal growth. Students return home with not only knowledge and skills but also lifelong memories, friendships, and a global perspective that empowers them to become confident, culturally aware citizens.

12-Day Immersive New Zealand:
Learning, Adventure & Cultural Connections

Fly direct from Shenzhen to Auckland, New Zealand’s largest and most vibrant harbourside city. Upon arrival, settle into your comfortable hotel and unwind after the journey. As evening lights shimmer across the waterfront, this relaxed first night sets the tone for a programme filled with discovery, learning, and genuine New Zealand hospitality.

Day 1 - Depart Shenzhen

Spend a full day discovering Auckland, a city where natural beauty meets cosmopolitan life. Climb Mt Eden for breathtaking panoramic views over volcanic cones, bustling streets, and the harbour. Wander through downtown’s vibrant lanes and along the Viaduct Harbour, alive with colourful boats, cafés, and lively waterfront activity.

The day’s highlight is a visit to the University of Auckland, one of the country’s top-ranked universities. Meet students, explore world-class programmes, and gain insight into studying abroad. This inspiring experience offers a glimpse into future learning opportunities, while also fostering curiosity and motivation for academic achievement.

Day 2 - Exploring Auckland

Take a scenic ferry across the Hauraki Gulf to Rangitoto Island, Auckland’s iconic volcanic island. Hike over ancient lava fields, explore dramatic craters, and participate in outdoor science lessons that connect geology, ecology, and New Zealand’s unique natural environment. From lush native bush to sweeping panoramic views of the sparkling gulf and city skyline, this adventure combines physical activity, exploration, and hands-on learning for a truly memorable day.

Day 3 – Rangitoto Island Adventure

Depart Auckland for a full day at Rosehill College, where students are fully immersed in Kiwi school life. Participate in interactive lessons across sciences, arts, technology, and humanities. Engage in collaborative projects, experiments, and workshops that develop critical thinking, creativity, and global awareness.

After school, journey to Rotorua, a city famous for geothermal activity and its unique natural environment. This combination of educational immersion and travel allows students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Day 4 – Immersion at Rosehill College & Travel to Rotorua

Rosehill College is a government, co-educational, secondary school located just south of Auckland City, away from the bustle of downtown Auckland. With approximately 1,700 students, the school offers a welcoming and supportive environment where learners can focus on both academic growth and personal development.

The college provides a broad and engaging curriculum across sciences, arts, technology, and humanities, supported by modern facilities including science labs, creative spaces, and outdoor learning areas. Rosehill College is excited to welcome international students to their school in 2026. Visitors are fully integrated into classroom activities and collaborative projects, gaining a genuine insight into New Zealand education while forming meaningful friendships with local students.

Explore the dramatic geothermal features of Waimangu Volcanic Valley, where steaming vents, bubbling mud pools, and vibrant thermal lakes illustrate New Zealand’s volcanic power. Participate in guided learning experiences that explain geothermal science and ecology in a hands-on, engaging way.

In the evening, immerse yourself in Māori culture at the Mitai Māori Village. Enjoy captivating performances, storytelling under starlit skies, and a traditional hangi feast, gaining a deeper understanding of local customs, history, and connection to the land.

Day 5 – Rotorua Geothermal Wonders & Māori Culture

Walk along the Te Waihou Walkway, home to some of the clearest spring waters in the world, and learn about New Zealand’s commitment to clean, green environmental stewardship. Visit a working sheep farm to experience rural life firsthand—feeding sheep, observing farm operations, and exploring rolling pastures. End the day with a hike to a majestic waterfall, surrounded by lush bush and the sounds of nature, blending adventure, environmental learning, and authentic Kiwi experiences.

Day 6 – Nature, Waterways & Farm Life

​​Take a day trip to Mt Maunganui, a stunning coastal town famous for its volcanic cone and sweeping ocean views. Hike to the summit of Mt Maunganui for breathtaking panoramas of the Pacific Ocean, golden beaches, and surrounding landscapes—a perfect mix of adventure and natural science learning.

After the hike, relax in the hot saltwater pools beside the ocean, taking in the incredible coastal scenery and reflecting on the journey so far. This day combines physical challenge, relaxation, and awe-inspiring nature, giving students a truly memorable New Zealand experience.

Day 7 – Mt Maunganui Adventure & Hot Pools

Return to Rosehill College for two consecutive immersion days. Partner with your New Zealand student buddy and engage in hands-on science labs, creative projects, and collaborative problem-solving activities. Explore technology, arts, and environmental modules that highlight New Zealand’s innovative approach to education while strengthening friendships and cross-cultural understanding.

Days 8 & 9 – Rosehill College Immersion Continued

Venture underground to the magical Waitomo Caves, where thousands of glow worms illuminate the dark caverns in a breathtaking spectacle. Learn Māori legends and ecological science behind this natural wonder.

Later, visit a local primary school, where bright, eager Kiwi students are excited to meet you. Share your culture, life stories, and experiences, inspiring young learners and fostering meaningful cross-cultural connections that leave a lasting impression.

Day 10 – Waitomo Caves & Primary School Visit

Step into the enchanting world of Hobbiton, the iconic movie set from The Lord of the Rings. Explore charming hobbit holes, lush gardens, and the Green Dragon Inn while discovering the artistry behind filmmaking and New Zealand’s cinematic landscapes.

 

In the evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner with closing speeches—a chance to celebrate your achievements, share memories, and thank those who supported your journey. Afterwards, transfer to the airport for your evening flight home, carrying with you experiences of adventure, learning, and lasting friendships.

Day 11 – Hobbiton & Farewell

Arrive home in the morning, enriched by unforgettable experiences, new knowledge, and friendships forged across cultures. Your role as a student ambassador leaves a lasting impact, bridging worlds and inspiring curiosity and global awareness.

The programme is hosted by Matt Harris, one of New Zealand’s most experienced and respected student hosts. Since 2012, Matt has welcomed over 750 students from around the world, including the Middle East, the USA, and Hong Kong, helping them connect with New Zealand schools and culture in meaningful ways.

Matt specialises in building strong relationships with local schools and creating programmes that bridge cultures, giving students opportunities to engage in classroom learning, collaborative projects, and everyday New Zealand life. He encourages students to push themselves to their limits in a supportive environment, fostering resilience, confidence, and personal growth.

A passionate educator, Matt also enjoys teaching students how to cook New Zealand cuisine, including hands-on experiences with outdoor barbecues, local recipes, and traditional foods. Fluent in English and Te Reo Māori, and fully qualified as a professional guide, he ensures every participant feels supported, inspired, and able to learn, explore, and thrive while gaining a genuine understanding of New Zealand culture and school life.
